S & A supports “Akron USA” to help promote the City of Akron

Akron USA is a not-for-profit tax-exempt organization created to assist leaders of the City of Akron to promote Akron on a macro and micro economic level. On January 31, 2004 a dinner was hosted at the John S. Knight Convention Center by Akron USA in an attempt to raise funds to assist Mayor Donald Plusquellic in promoting the City of Akron as he accepts his new duties and responsibilities as president of the United States Conference of Mayors (“USCM”). Skidmore & Associates was a bronze sponsor of the event.

For the first time in the mayoral history of the City of Akron, our mayor has been elected to the pinnacle position within the USCM. Mayor Plusquellic will be serving a one-year term when he is inaugurated in June 2004 at the Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. This will provide a plethora of business and economic opportunities for the City of Akron. Mayor Plusquellic will be the primary liaison representing the interest of municipalities while interfacing with state and federal government leaders. Akron USA will be a bipartisan effort to more effectively market Akron nationally and internationally.

During Mayor Plusquellic’s tenure as president of the USCM, there will be opportunities for the City of Akron to be in the national spotlight. Akron USA will provide a vehicle in which to fund showcasing events. For example, the Fall Leadership Meeting of the USCM will take place in the City of Akron with dozens of mayors from throughout the U.S. attending.
